Monologue of a strained eye- What your eyes have been meaning to tell you?

Attention techy people and IT guys or whoever who is working on a laptop,

What if your vision gets comprised for a day?
Or the worse happens where you lose your eyesight?

That’s not a pretty picture, right!

Well! Let me explain my near-death experience (that’s how I explain even a paper cut 😂) that I had recently.

It was a normal day, I was working. Suddenly my vision got clouded. I couldn’t see anything clearly. I tried rubbing my eyes, washing my face, and even took a nap. No improvement.

The fear of losing my eyesight forever seeped into me, and I was ready to go to the hospital. While this chaos was happening, I was still sitting in front of my laptop, trying to see the screen and reply to the emails.

All of a sudden, I realized why this will not get corrected unless I take a step. I came out to the balcony, closed my eyes gently and only God knows how long I sat there in that position.

Suddenly I heard voices behind me. With a jolt, I opened my eyes and tried to observe my surroundings. Disappointment again! 😞 It was still clouded. I started planning the expenses that I would need for LASER surgery.

Wiping imaginary tears and figuring out the explanation that I have to give to my clients, I came in. Hah! There it is! I can see things now… I was still not convinced and tried rubbing my eyes and did again. It was back once and for all (okay, not sure about this)

The whole fiasco didn’t even last 1 hour and there I was about to message everyone letting them that I lost my vision (yes, I am a drama queen 😅).
Though it looks like a funny story, it isn’t. It’s a sign that I have to take care of my body parts properly. According to google, blurry or clouded vision is a sign of serious underlying disease (seriously? Of all people, google?).

Eyes are the most delicate part of the human body and need the utmost care. It needs sleep, and break too, like us human beings… We have to take good care of it else we would have to bid goodbye forever to our vision. It wouldn’t hurt to stay without our gadgets for a day or for a week. But, can we?

Going through this minor trauma changed my approach for good and showed me what are the things I take for granted. It’s never too late to admit that we are wrong and change our habits. No more excuses.

Following are the measures I started implementing to pamper my eyes. Probably you should too…

Reduced brightness and set the display settings to the optimal level. No flashy screen and no darkroom.

Started using my UV protection glasses regularly. I still don’t know whether it does something or not. But I look cool in that. 😎

Earlier it was work-Netflix-Youtube-Instagram-Work. Now, it is work-break-work-break- Little amount of Netflix and Instagram (Really cannot survive without these apps, can we)

Blinking often and turning away from the screen and staring at my surroundings for a while. I might look like a lunatic while doing this but it is worth it.

Sleep. Here is a weird fact about me. I hate sleeping. I feel like sleeping kills productivity. I never slept over 6 hours a day. Apparently, sleep is mandatory for the eyes to do their own thinking. Fine! I was like you want it, you got it!

No more late-night works. My family is delighted to notice this change as they hate hearing tak tak tak keyboard sound while they sleep. 😂

Overall, I turned into this new person who values her eyes than her work and gives it everything it needs like a good employer. If we cannot sit in a dark room for two minutes, would we love being that way for life? Why lose it when you can fix it… Please share the measures you take to protect your eyes in the comments section. Let’s help each other.
